Curious about canning your own produce, but nervous about taking the plunge? Join us for a free canning class on Saturday, August 18th from 12:30 – 2:00pm at The Earth House Collective (237 N. East Street, Indianapolis).

In this introductory class, we’ll cover the basics of water bath canning, the simplest and most common canning method. Learn which foods are appropriate for this food preservation method, and important guidelines for doing it safely at home.

We’ll walk through a complete preserves recipe from start to finish, and send you home ready to tackle this fun D.I.Y. project yourself! The class will be taught by Master Food Preserver and Indy Food Swappers founder Suzanne Krowiak. It’s free and open to the public, with no advance registration or ticket required.

The canning class is the kick-off to an afternoon celebrating our food swap community. From 2:00 – 4:00pm, we’ll be swapping food and celebrating the first birthday of Indy Food Swappers. The swap portion of the day is full, but you can join the waitlist here. (We often have late cancellations, so your chances of getting a ticket are good.)
